Lily of the valley ~ Convallaria majalis

Many of the flowers we have in the garden began in the gardens of friends and family. The lilies of the valley that a friend gave us 30 years ago has spread from a few plants to a large colony that has covered the flower bed on the north side of our home. The simple creamy white blossoms with the wonderful scent make a lovely floral carpet beneath the ferns and bleeding hearts each spring.

This botanical portrait was done in colored pencil on an 11" x 14" sheet of Fabriano Artistico hot pressed watercolor paper.

Little Pie Pumpkin

Last October I found the cutest little pie pumpkin while shopping at the local apple orchard. When I saw the graceful stem I knew I had to draw it.

I started my sketches but then November happened with an art show and the holidays close behind, so the artwork came to an abrupt halt. Thankfully, pumpkins are good keepers and this one survived well so I could finish the drawing.

Now with the winter months ahead I hope to have more time for art. This is the first of what I hope to be many more creative endeavors before spring and gardening season arrives.

New Etsy Shop Open for Business!

To celebrate the new year I have finally opened my Etsy Shop!

It is called TwigsAndPetals

I have a fairly clear schedule for the winter months ahead and thought I would take advantage of the bit of extra "free time" and try something new. Since I can do this from home I am also hoping it will free me up for more time in the studio, something that has been sorely missing in my life for the past couple years.

I have several pieces on the site for sale and plan on adding to my inventory very soon. Right now I have prints available but soon will be adding a note card section. The focus of the shop is "Botanical artwork and gifts inspired by nature" so I have other items I've been playing around with that might also find their way to the shop in the near future.

Please feel free to stop by for a visit! :)  Thanks!
