Nature Journal

2017 Nature Journal

At the end of 2016 the owner of the gallery where I show my art shared a book with another artist and I called, The Country Diary of an Edwardian Lady, by Edith Holden from the year 1906. I was blown away by her beautiful artwork of the natural world around her. She also kept a written diary of what was going on in nature in the area where she lived in addition to poems and sayings related to each season and month of the year. My artist friend and I decided we would each start a diary of our own. Following are excerpts from my journal. I hope you will enjoy them~

The project begins~

(colored pencil and fountain pen on Strathmore 400 art journal)

First entry ~ African violets from my windowsill

More plants from the winter windowsill and birds at the feeder

A favorite winter poem ~ fox sparrow at the edge of our woods

A dying ash tree in the fence row

February entries

March quotations

Herbs that lived indoors during the winter waiting to be planted outdoors in the spring.

April page of wildflowers and early spring garden flowers and plants.
